This is a full-disk multiwavelength extreme ultraviolet image of our
sun. False color techniques allow for a clear definition of different gas temperatures.
The red tinting defines a cooler temperature (about 60,000 degrees Kelvin
or 107,540 F). The blue and green tinting shows us the hotter areas (more than 1 million degrees Kelvin or 1,799,540
F).
The Solar Dynamics Observatory was launched on Feb. 11, 2010. It
was noted as the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the sun and its dynamic behavior.
