This image, from the European Space Agency's Herschel Space Observatory shows us the magnificent
Stellar Nursery in the Rosette Nebula, approx. 5,000 light-years from the Earth.
We see the infrared light from the dust clouds. The bright smudges are dusty cocoons that contain
massive embryonic stars.
